Struggling with loosing belly fat? Here are some things and tips to note.

Shedding lots of sweats from tonnes of sit ups? sucking in your stomach in the mirror to imagine your upcoming slimmer figure? Having a hard time fitting into your favorite outfit? If any of these scenarios best describes you, then you should read this. Perhaps it could be helpful

Belly fats are notoriously hard to get rid of. They are fat cells that gather around your lower abdomen known as 'beta fat' cells. Interestingly, belly fat is the easiest to put on, but the hardest to work off. Here are a few tips that can help you pinpoint where you may be getting it wrong. Let's go!

1. You are not getting enough sleep

From scrolling through social media to having a late-night coffee, there are lots of ways that we unknowingly keep ourselves awake at night. We are awake the next day tired and unsteady not getting the recommended 8 hours sleep each night which can affect our weight loss plan. Here is what happens to our body when we do not get enough sleep; our body hormones gets ticked off which in turn impacts our hunger level the next day. There are two hormones that affects our appetite: ghrelin(makes us hunger) and leptin(makes us full). When we do not get enough sleep, our ghrelin level rises and the leptin level drops. This means when we are awake, we tend to eat more and feel less satisfied. Try getting a night routine that allows you turn in bed early enough nightly to avoid this imbalance.

2. You are targeting the wrong muscles

Targeting the right area of abdominal muscles shouldn't be over looked. However, only abdominal focused workout wont help you eliminate the bulge. Belly fat is simply where your body stores energy, so you need to take a whole-body approach to tackle it. If you focus also on other body muscle, then you do not have to necessarily lose a lot of body fat in order to look more trim. It has a pulling effect on your belly. Squats, jumping ropes, burpees and treadmill sprints are all examples to try.

3. Your diet is all wrong

So you are doing your whole-body exercises a few days a week? Bravo! You should celebrate your effort. But if you are not getting your diet right, you should not be surprised if you do not see the results you want. When your diet consists of lots of sports drinks, sugar sweetened drinks like fizzy pop and flavored waters or sugary foods like chocolate and cakes, it will make loosing weight harder. While fruits and vegetables are undoubtedly good for you, they can also sometimes cause weight gain if eaten too much as they have high levels of natural sugars in them. Try cutting back on the amount of carbohydrates you consume, if possible dropping your carbs intake to the lowest minimum, you will have the best chance of losing your belly fat. Quality is important but so is quantity. You can eat the best diet in the world but if you do not practice mindful eating, the stubborn bulge will continue to pester you.

4. You are feeling stressed or anxious

Feeling stressed can wreck havoc in the body. It can cause our body to produce the steroid hormone cortisol, which can make you crave sugary foods that provide instant energy and pleasure. Short term bursts of cortisol are necessary to help us cope with immediate danger, but our body will also release this hormone if we are feeling anxious. When our cortisol levels are high for a long amount of time, it can increase the amount of fat you hold in your belly.

5. You want it to happen like magic

It is easy to become impatient and frustrated when you are trying to lose weight and have not seen your desired result yet. Okaaaay, you have to be realistic - results wont come overnight! Your brain is being introduced to a new concept and it will take some time to process it before your body can establish it. Fitness experts recommends a period of 12 weeks for visible results expectation. Yeah, you hear right... So its best to set realistic goals while you embrace the process.

Okay ladies, I hope you find these pointers useful. Have a bubbly weekend!!!
